Introduction
Established in 1985, the
Principals' Center is a dynamic professional resource to
area administrators. It was designed as an oasis of training
for the improvement and renewal of administrative skills and
energies.
It is the belief of the
Principals' Center that the need exists for principals to
meet in a collegial atmosphere and to share, in a supportive
way, the skills and practices that have proven successful in
the school setting. The challenge of the principal's role is
immense. The expertise to solve problems, make sound
decisions, manage resources, people and programs, as well as
to lead and to be a strong example on a daily basis is
required of all administrators. The aptitude to do these
things well can be enhanced if these critical skills are
reviewed and improved at on-going, regular intervals.
Beginning and veteran administrators have much to share with
each other to achieve excellence in the role and philosophy
of the principalship.
The Principals' Center serves
principals specifically, and administrative groups in
general. It shall be a network for tapping professional
knowledge so that the exceptional strengths of those
principals in the field practicing daily can be utilized as
resources to help and aid others working in the profession.
The programs of the Principals’ Center will be run to
benefit principals, and, in large part, they should be run
by principals. The Principals' Center must strengthen the
variety of skills a principal needs to effectively master in
order to meet the challenges of the principalship. The
Principals' Center seeks to establish itself as a catalyst
for establishing excellence in those individuals who carry
the title "Principal".
