Assistant Professor, School Leadership
 Department of Educational Administration and Policy Studies, UAlbany

The Department of Educational Administration & Policy Studies of the School of Education at the University at Albany, SUNY invites applications for Assistant Professor (tenure track) in School Leadership. The Department seeks diverse candidates who demonstrate excellent ability in teaching, research, and service. This position combines opportunities to participate in on-going renewal of the department’s school leadership initiatives, including pre-service education and continuing professional development; to undertake research relevant to the practice of leadership and school improvement; and to engage with colleagues whose interests and work span pre-K to post-graduate education, domestic and global. Attractive candidates will have expertise in at least one of the following areas: supervisory and instructional leadership, finance and human resources in education, school board and community relations, and organizational management and school improvement. Ranked among the top 10 doctoral programs in the field by Academic Analytics, the Department is currently engaged in a comprehensive renewal of its academic programs, a growth in external funding, and an evolving student profile. We are looking for applicants who bring unique perspectives to the study of school leadership, particularly those who draw from experience and interests in diverse groups and/or diverse educational settings. The ideal candidate will complement the strengths and expertise currently in the Department, while establishing his/her own distinct profile of scholarship, teaching, and service. Anticipated start date is Sept. 1, 2008.

Required qualifications:
Earned doctoral degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education (DOE) or internationally recognized accrediting organization, completed by September 2008 as evidenced by graduate transcript(s) in school leadership or a related field. Applicants must also address in their applications their abilities to work with a culturally diverse population.

Preferred qualifications:
Experience teaching graduate courses and active engagement in research related to preK-12 education leadership or reform, as evidenced by scholarly and professional publications and/or external funding. Particularly attractive candidates will have experience in school leadership/governance and preparing and/or mentoring entering school leaders.

Responsibilities:
Teach departmental core courses and courses in school leadership; maintain active engagement in applied research related to school leadership; develop and maintain external funding; advise graduate students; supervise doctoral students and research; and serve on department, school, and university committees. As appropriate to background and experience, responsibilities may include developing connections with school, district, and state agency partners by actively involving them in the department’s mission and assisting with coordinating field experiences.
