Service Associate Professor, School
Leadership

The Department of Educational Administration
& Policy Studies of the School of Education at the
University at Albany, SUNY invites applications for a
contract appointment (non-tenure track) as a Service
Associate Professor in School Leadership. The Department
seeks diverse candidates who demonstrate excellent ability
in teaching and service, with a firm commitment to
research-supported policies and practices. This position
combines opportunities to participate in on-going
renewal of the department’s school leadership initiatives,
including pre-service education and continuing professional
development; to facilitate connections to school, district,
and state agency partners; and to engage with colleagues
whose interests and work span pre-K to post-graduate
education, domestic and global. Attractive candidates will
have expertise in areas such as supervisory and
instructional leadership, finance and human resources in
education, school board and community relations, and
organizational management and school improvement. Ranked
among the top 10 doctoral programs in the field by Academic
Analytics, the Department is currently engaged in a
comprehensive renewal of its academic programs, a growth in
external funding, and an evolving student profile. We are
looking for applicants who bring unique perspectives to the
development and study of
leadership in schools, particularly those who draw from
experience and interests in diverse groups and/or diverse
educational settings. The ideal candidate will complement
and strengths and expertise currently in the Department,
while establishing his/her own distinct profile of teaching
and service. If applicable, we will seek approval for
re-employment in public service of a retired NYS public
employee (e.g., retired school administrator). Anticipated
start date is Sept. 1, 2008
Required qualifications:
Earned doctoral degree from a college or university
accredited by a U.S. Department of Education (DOE) or
internationally recognized accrediting organization, as
evidenced by graduate transcript(s) in school leadership or
a related field. Applicants must address in their
applications their abilities to work with a culturally
diverse population.
Preferred qualifications:
Substantial experience in school leadership/governance,
experience teaching graduate courses, preparing and/or
mentoring entering and experienced school leaders, and
experience with externally funded projects and initiatives.
Particularly attractive candidates will have experience
engaging in applied research related to preK-12 education
leadership as evidenced by participation in scholarly and
professional presentations/publications and/or external
funding.
Responsibilities:
Teach departmental core courses and courses in school
leadership; coordinate field experiences; advise graduate
students; develop strong connections to school, district,
and state agency partners and actively involve them in the
department’s mission; develop and maintain external funding;
and serve on department, school, and university committees.
As appropriate to background and experience,
responsibilities may include supervising doctoral students
and research; and participating in research related to
school leadership and/or school reform.
