Reading and understanding information is essential for students to succeed in all content areas. This webinar will provide clear, focused strategies that can be implemented in the classroom immediately. Participants will become familiar with instructional strategies such as The Directed Reading and Thinking Activity, Response Notebooks and constructing comparison matrices. These methods can be added to the toolbox of literacy instructors, ELA and Social Studies Teachers.
Participants will learn:
To utilize the Directed Reading - Thinking Activity (DRTA).
To construct a comparison matrix for use across all content areas and all grade levels- before, during, and after reading.
How to use Response Notebooks as a powerful learning tool for all students.
The know/want-to-know/learned (KWL) chart that enhances background knowledge, questioning, and determination of importance (KWL) chart.
The question - answer relationship (QAR), that targets the question, "where is the answer."
