CREATED DIAGNOSTIC ASSESSMENTS TO TARGET STUDENT SKILL DEFICITS
CASDA has identified certain common core (college-ready) skills found in ELA standards 1, 2 and 3, which are essential in driving student performance. We call these skills “Power Indicators” because of their foundational nature. The successful mastery of these common core skills will lead to increased student success on all ELA standards. Based on the data, we know that many students have below grade-level common core skills relative to the Power Indicators. CASDA has developed multi-grade assessments based on the Power Indicator Standards to help identify below grade-level skill gaps that need to be backfilled. The data from these assessments enables teachers to target skill gaps and apply the appropriate instructional scaffolding.
Members of the Data & Analysis Team will provide the assessments, analysis and accompanying professional development for grades 4-8 ELA teachers. This includes:
Creating ELA multi-grade assessment that tests skills from the current grade level and the immediate grades below
Organizing and assisting in the scoring
Developing data analysis reports
Analyzing the results of the multi-grade assessment
Guiding teachers in interpreting the assessment results
Giving examples of small group and individual instruction plans
Meeting with teachers in small groups to give examples of instructional strategies and scaffolding
Using the CASDA designed multi-grade assessments benefits teachers and drives student performance. Teachers use the data to shore up skills through whole group instruction, differentiated instruction for small groups, and targeted remediation for individual students who are receiving AIS or special education services.
