CASDA’s expert faculty draws upon years of experience as instructional leaders in literacy. This depth of knowledge enables faculty members to offer a wide variety of research-driven supports and reviews as well as direct and embedded professional development services for teachers and administrators.

CASDA will review a school or district’s needs and collaboratively develop a plan for sustainable school improvement through professional learning in literacy. This emphasis on professional learning will address both specific literacy education questions and help create a school-wide environment in which all parties are committed to higher levels of learning. Each plan is customized to meet the needs of students, teachers and school cultures. Areas of support include:

  • Examining the school to build a solid infrastructure: common language, assessment alignment, literacy beliefs and practices.

  • Complete literacy audits or reviews based on school needs.

  • Design relevant and engaging curriculum based on the ELA Common Core to focus and connect teaching.

  • Work with teachers on consistency, coherence and team work horizontally and vertically.

  • Develop classroom practices and environments which support literacy.

  • Review data as a foundational tool for addressing needs in literacy.

  • Helping teachers establish literacy learning targets and benchmarks.

  • Provide professional development such as webinars, book study, workshops, guided support and embedded coaching.

  • Address the unique needs of student subgroups through meaningful instruction, flexibility in teaching, student engagement and student ownership of literacy learning.

Working with CASDA faculty on literacy will build a professional learning community to address the school's most pressing literacy education needs. Follow up and embedded support may be part of the plan to ensure sustainable progress.
