Collaboration between district leaders and teachers’ associations has taken on even greater importance in the face of uncertainty surrounding the reopening of schools in September. As school districts, boards of education, educators, families and students face unprecedented circumstances, clear lines of communication and mutual understanding serves the interests of all parties.
The 15th Annual Mel Osterman Law Conference will present an overview of the relevant aspects of the Taylor Law as it relates to school reopening to provide district leaders with key insights into applicable labor regulations. The topics of safety, teacher work expectations and responsibilities will be highlighted. Additionally, the program will feature a panel including district leadership, a school attorney, a NYSUT LRS and a representative of a teachers’ association bargaining unit. This discussion will highlight the concerns and perspectives of each constituency on this singular situation.
