The end of the school year offers a chance to celebrate student achievement. It allows high school graduates to look toward the future and embrace its possibilities. This occasion should also encourage reflection on the role of public education in our society and the invaluable work of the teachers who serve as its foundation. Discussion in public education focuses regularly on policy agendas and test scores, often overlooking the contributions of outstanding teachers, administrators and staff members who work tirelessly to serve their students and communities.
Supporting educators is the core of CASDA’s mission. Whether coaching new administrators, sharing effective instructional practice with teachers or helping a leadership team develop a strategic plan for school improvement, our faculty members strive to connect educators with resources and ideas that benefit students. Programs such as the Summer Data Institute allow leaders and instructors to utilize state testing as an indicator to develop instructional strategies to cultivate skills. The Climate, Culture and Community faculty strives to develop a greater understanding of urgent issues impacting schools such as student poverty, mental health and childhood trauma. The Prospective Educator Scholarship Award presented by Phi Delta Kappa at CASDA’s Annual Capital Region Education Awards Dinner recognizes students whose experiences inspired them to pursue a career in education.
Teachers are often the source of this inspiration. There is little more worthy of celebration than an educator inspiring a student to dedicate their life to sharing passion, curiosity and care with the next generation. These connections between teachers and pupils represent the heart of the scholastic mission and drive CASDA’s efforts to support the work of education.
