The View From Here

The end of the calendar year is a natural time to look back and see what we’ve done over the past twelve months.  For CASDA, it has been an eventful year, to be sure.

My writing this is a perfect example of the changes in staff.  With Jim Butterworth stepping away from the Executive Director position, there are changes in every aspect of the organization itself, including full and part-time staff.  We have two new full-time staff, one new part-time staffer, one person with a change in duties, three leaving for other opportunities, and an interim executive director.  That makes eight changes with a staff of 9.5 employees in the office area.  Whew!

Additionally, this week we completed a move in our offices.  While still located on the 4th floor of the building on the UAlbany Health and Sciences campus where we have always been, our main office has moved down the hall from A409 to A408.  You would think that a move so small would be easy to accomplish, but it is just as disruptive as a move across town.  The only difference is you don’t put items  in a truck first.

We also welcomed and said goodbye to several of our esteemed faculty.  While saying goodbye is never easy, we are so excited about the opportunities that our new faculty will bring to our member districts.

Finally, we want to welcome two new member schools.  The Mechanicville City School District and the LaSalle Institute have joined our group for the 2017-2018 school year, and we are glad to have them as a part of our large catchment area.  We now have 113 schools and districts as members of this organization.

Despite all of these changes, one thing remains constant: CASDA continues to serve our members with the highest degree of professional support possible.  Whether in conferences, workshops, webinars, or a contract for services, CASDA remains the premier method of receiving outstanding professional support for your district.  It would not be possible without your continued backing of our efforts and for that, we thank you.

Have a wonderful holiday season, and we look forward to working with you to improve and grow for students and teachers in 2018.

Jim Hoffman

Interim Executive Director
