Supporting English Language Learners with Disabilities: A Collaborative Approach is a five-hour, research-based professional development workshop designed for school psychologists, speech and language therapists, special education teachers and administrators, and ENL teachers and administrators working with English Language Learners (ELLs). This session focuses on the intersection of language development, cultural diversity, and special education, equipping participants with tools to distinguish between language acquisition and learning differences. Attendees will explore culturally responsive assessment practices, effective communication with multilingual families, and collaborative program delivery models that align with both ENL and special education regulations and legislation. Through case studies and collaborative discussion, participants will strengthen their ability to make informed, equitable decisions that support the academic and social-emotional success of ELLs receiving special education services.
